RELATIONSHIP REBUILD

New homeowners Sarah Wiseman and Luke Rusbatch, both 29, have recently embarked on a brave journey into the world of DIY home renovations.

The couple, eager to add their own touch to their recently purchased property in Nelson, are discovering that wielding a hammer and a paintbrush might just be the least of their worries.

“We thought it would be fun. You know, putting our personal stamp on the place. But we didn’t account for Luke thinking a ‘fresh coat of paint’ means just one layer over everything,” Sarah exclaimed, her eyes fixed on the half-done wall in their lounge.

“It’s like he thinks the paint will magically cover up all the mistakes. Urgh he’s so annoying like that” said Sarah, becoming increasingly frustrated at the man she is meant to love.

The couple’s DIY dreams are quickly turning into a series of passive-aggressive comments and incomplete projects. It started with the simple idea to repaint the kitchen, but it quickly escalated into a “full overhaul”, including replacing tiles and ripping up the floorboards.

“We agreed to do the floors together,” Sarah explained, “but Luke decided to ‘surprise’ me by tearing up the old tiles and replacing them with these… rustic wooden planks?’

Luke shot her a pointed look after overhearing her comments, but just before striking back, a moment of clarity suddenly redirected his attention.

“Right I’m off to Mitre 10” he said, walking out of the house in a silent rage.

More to come.

"ALL THE SAME TO ME".

Josh Krawley was thoroughly unhelpful during an unscheduled visit to Mitre 10 last weekend.

The 32 year old builder stared blankly at his wife Cara, who had just asked him which white he preferred for painting the lounge. “It was like I was looking at two identical cards of the exact same colour,” he said to reporters, deliberately choosing not to use the word “swatches”.

“ALL THE SAME TO ME”

Josh Krawley was thoroughly unhelpful during an unscheduled visit to Mitre 10 last weekend.

The 32 year old builder stared blankly at his wife Cara, who had just asked him which white he preferred for painting the lounge. “It was like I was looking at two identical cards of the exact same colour,” he said to reporters, deliberately choosing not to use the word “swatches”.

Krawley recounted his experience at the Upper Hutt retail location.

“I said to Cara that they both look fine and that I would back her decision one hundred percent. And I meant that wholeheartedly. It was a simple choice between white, or white.”

Unsurprisingly, this response was not received well. Cara expected Krawley to show some form of interest in the redecorating of the house, as she subconsciously also used this as a measure of his commitment to the marriage.

“She wasn’t having that, and pushed me to tell her which white I liked more. So I arbitrarily pointed at one of the cards, as they are both white.

“But then out of nowhere she disagrees with my choice and attempts to start an argument about it,” he said, still in disbelief at what had transpired.

“So I now have to make an argument for my shade of white, which I chose at random, and act like this is something I care about.”

“I said my colour choice was ‘more subtle’. What did I mean by that? No idea,” he said.

Krawley described how he and his wife went back and forth on which of the identical whites was the best choice, and in the end, they went with Cara’s preference.

“Fantastic that we came to a decision in the end, wasn’t it? Well worth the discussion,” he said sarcastically.

“Amazing stuff.”

More to come.
