LED TO TEMPTATION

Napier-based scaffolder Luke Davidson, 27, was cooking just for himself tonight, with flatmates away for the evening. 

With plans to treat himself to some Netflix based comedy content, Davidson thought why not upgrade his nacho recipe to gourmet level, adding an avocado to the normal mince, onion, tomato and chilli beans. 

“As they say, sometimes you just gotta ‘treat yo self’,” he said unironically. 

But as he got to the plating up stage of creating his culinary delight, Davidson found that there were only just enough Mexicano corn chips left in the bag to form a neat ring around the edge of his plate. 

“Have Mexicano started under-filling their bags? What a scam,” he lied to our reporters, who watched his hand dip into the bag multiple times during cooking. 

“I usually pick at the corn chips a bit while I’m cooking, but this is ridiculous. I didn’t eat that many.”

Davidson’s flatmate Ryan says that on nights where they do nachos together, the bag of cheese corn chips has to stay in the pantry until all the cooking’s done. 

“Luke can’t control himself. If he opens that bag when the onions go in the pan then by the time it’s time to eat, we’d probably get about four chips each. 

“Absolute fiend.”

For tonight though, Davidson is happy to finish off the full bag himself, knowing full well how bloated and uncomfortable he’s going to feel afterwards.

TOO GOOD TO THROW OUT

Wellington local Doug Canderson, 31, has an eye for quality that is fast becoming a personal burden. 

Although the Aro Valley barista would like to stay up to date with the latest tech trends, he currently owns the iPhone 11, which he purchased from Apple in 2019. Due partly to his financial situation, Canderson has chosen not to have “Apple fan” be part of his personality. 

However this is in stark contrast to a discovery made earlier this week, during a cleanout of the desk of his bedroom, where he found the pristine Apple packaging that his five year old phone came in. 

“The box still just seems so perfect. I’d feel like I was committing a crime if I threw it in the rubbish, or even the recycling,” he said. 

“What kind of material is it? Is it cardboard that can go straight in the recycling bin? Feels like it must be some kind of super durable composite.”

Doug’s flatmate Tara was also part of the flat spring cleaning day. 

“That box has been sitting in his drawer for five years. Has he ever once referred to it? For any reason at all?” she asked semi-rhetorically. 

“I know Apple does a really nice box, but what purpose is it serving in the drawer? If he likes it that much, why doesn’t it have its own display cabinet?”

In the end, Mr Canderson could not overcome his fetish for aesthetically pleasing design. The smooth white box survived another year of spring clearning, and was returned to the back of the desk drawer, never to be seen again.

WE MADE CHIPS!

32 year old homeowner Tali Lambourne made it abundantly clear today that she is very pleased with her new air fryer. 

The marketing professional at Salescorp NZ came in hot this morning, much like the snacks she’s been cooking at home.  

“Guess who just got an air fryer!?” she said loudly as she was swarmed by female coworkers congratulating her. This followed weeks of talk about the popular kitchen appliance, mainly coming from Stacey. 

Stacey is the office’s “first adopter” when it comes to anything new. Needless to say she is always first in line for the new iPhone, and has crippling credit card debt. 

“Tali’s been wanting one for aaages. I’m so happy she finally got one. I bought mine years ago when they first came out,” she said, looking around to see if anyone cared.

Ms. Lambourne meanwhile has done what many new air fryer owners do to dip their feet into the exciting world of air frying – she made chips. 

“They were sooo good, like crunchy, but not all fatty, you know? You can tell they’re a way healthier option,” she said sagely. 

“You can basically cook anything in the air fryer, I don’t really even need my oven anymore! And it’s so quick!”

Michelle meanwhile, who had remained relatively quiet throughout the morning, silently vowed that she would be the next person to get an air fryer.

And when she finally does get one, she too would talk about it.
