THE RIGHT THING TO DO

The overwhelming message coming from the Public Service Association today is “do better”, as it was revealed that there are currently no lanyards available to public servants to support Ukraine or Palestine.

As it stands, government employees in Wellington are able to pledge allegiance to the LGBTQ community via the rainbow lanyard, but are not able to do the same for all the other latest things.

Maia Biddell, a newcomer to the Ministry of Education, was “literally shaking” when she found out there were no company lanyards for Palestine.

“I was like oh wow, really? This is what the public service is really like huh? At uni I was under the impression that real changes were happening. So disappointed,” she said to our reporters while simultaneously posting the same thing to her followers on “Bluesky”.

“There is a genocide happening right now, and if this government can’t even organise lanyards for its workers, what chance have we got of freeing Palestine?”

Ash Davison, an MBIE employee for two months, has been campaigning hard for Ukraine lanyard.

“Has SLT been living under a rock? World War 3 is literally happening. Stop stalling, do the right thing and get the blue and yellow lanyards made NOW.”

Laura Jacobsen, who currently wears the rainbow lanyard to enhance her career at the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, says she will not be forced to choose between the rainbow and any future lanyards that get released.

“If there’s three lanyards to wear then I’ll be wearing three lanyards. Simple as that. I’ll clip all three lanyards to a master clip, and I’ll attach it to my ID and swipe card,” she said smoothly.

“If you could do your bit to fight against multiple genocides by wearing patterned lanyards, wouldn’t you just do it?”

More to come.
