FILL THE TIN
Saturday night’s Super Rugby final between the Hurricanes and the Chiefs at the cake tin looks like it will deliver the classic Wellington experience, with both wind and rain expected in the evening.
Metservice’s 7-day forecast (which could still change to be fair) currently says “A few showers, turning to rain in the evening. Strong northwesterlies.”
And while it’s well known that Wellington can’t be beaten on a good day, Canes fans will be hoping the same can be said about a shit one.
Newly arrogant Hurricanes fan Jamie Johns offered up his own views on the Hurricanes’ season, despite not being asked by the Whakataki Times or any other journalists.
“The canes have got this one. Impossible to beat this year. They’ll pile on 50 points, rain or shine, you just watch,” said the 64 year old in a distinctly Cantabrian manner, quite unbefitting of a classical Wellingtonian.
“We’ve got the best front row in the country, the best loosies, we’ve got the tallest man in New Zealand and we’ve also got an unlimited supply of wingers, plus New Zealand’s top half back and perhaps the next All Black number 10,” he said as he frightened onlookers on Lambton Quay with his sheer confidence and self belief.
After a short gust of wind in the CBD, Mr Johns paused the interview to deposit his now broken umbrella into a nearby bin, which had happened before.
“As they say at the Warriors, this is our year. What a team. And I’ll just say that a bit of wind and rain won’t make a difference to the boys, or the fans at the cake tin.”
More to come.
