Local Dad Foolishly Assumes The Olympics Would Be Family Friendly

HA, SORRY GUYS

Mark Davidson, a Wairarapa father of two young boys, made an obvious error this morning as he was enjoying some family time in his modest living room.

The 34 year old remembered that the Olympic Games opening ceremony was on, where athletes from around the world would be welcomed to the Paris games. He stupidly believed this would be perfectly safe content for the whole family, with nothing inappropriate or unnecessary.

Unfortunately for Davidson, what he saw were scenes traditionally reserved for an adults only cabaret show, with everything from drag performances to a weirdly graphic beheading scene.

“Ah well, guess we’re not watching the Olympics this year kids, haha, sorry about that!” he said to four year old Matthew, who was hiding his face under a couch cushion.

“Dad messed up, thought the Olympics was something for everyone. Thought there’d be people viewing from around the world and that they’d put on an impressive and watchable event. Silly me!” he said, laughing at his own naivety.

Son Matthew went on the record saying “Daddy I don’t like this”.

The ceremony itself started well, with an innovative boat parade for the athletes along the River Seine. It was a welcome change to the standard stadium-based event.

But the TV was quickly turned off when it became clear that the focus would be men in revealing clothing, writhing around suggestively like a 1980s music video – all perfectly fine entertainment for an adult audience that chooses to tune in.

“Ha, sorry team. Looks like international sporting events aren’t safe for us to watch together anymore. Nevermind!”

More to come.
