WHAT WILL WE DO?!
DB Breweries Marketing Director Fraser Shrimpton woke up in a cold sweat this morning at around 3.30 AM.
The man behind the return of the infamous Tui billboards was horrified to hear that Cheryl Walker, from the affluent Wellington suburb of Karori, said the billboards “weren’t even funny”.
The 50 year old took issue with the latest ad that made reference to the much publicised Polkinghorne murder trial. Ms. Walker had of course happily allowed herself to be sucked in to the news story, which was a welcome change from watching every single crime drama on free to air TV.
The billboard read: “Back to being a respectable meth smoking, sex worker loving doctor then. Yeah right.”
Walker, who’s never drunk Tui or any other beer paused her re-run of CSI Miami to talk to reporters.
“A woman died and they’re making jokes about it. It’s disgusting and shouldn’t be allowed,” she said, failing to realise that Polkinghorne was clearly the target of the joke, due to his morally divergent behaviour.
A shaken Fraser Shrimpton said the reaction to the billboard had been “devastating”.
“The backlash has been really hard to deal with. As a marketing team, the last thing we wanted was all this free publicity for the Tui brand.
“What will we do now that all these people who never drink beer believe that we’ve been making bad taste jokes?” he asked dramatically.
Meanwhile at Pak n Save Kilbirnie, Cheryl’s 19 year old son Xavier would not comment after being seen walking out with Tui’s signature 24 box.
More to come.
