BAD FOR THE ECONOMY

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has described Taylor Swift’s wedding as “a kick in the guts for hardworking kiwis”, after Swift chose to have the event at New York’s Madison Square Garden instead of in Queenstown.

Luxon invited the couple to New Zealand to have their wedding shortly after news of their engagement hit the internet. In trademark style, timestrapped Luxon made the video in the back of a car, apparently on the way to something.

The Prime Minister believes that the natural beauty of central Otago should have been a no-brainer for the popstar.

“I can’t believe Taylor would do this to New Zealanders after we invited them here with open arms. This wedding has created exactly zero jobs for hardworking kiwis, and brought in zero US dollars to our economy. Quite frankly I’m gobsmacked,” he said in a video recorded once again in the back of a moving vehicle.

“Travis Kelce could have come and seen rugby being played in New Zealand, because rugby is kind of like American football, which is the sport he plays. Can’t believe he couldn’t make that connection!”

With the election just around the corner, Luxon no doubt believed that hordes of painful American elites descending on New Zealand would be just the thing to get kiwis on board with National. However he maintains that this is about lost tourist dollars, not lost votes.

“Think of the injection of cash into the Queenstown hospo industry we could have had. Such a shame. It will take me a long time to forgive Taylor for this, but who knows maybe New Zealand’s part of her honeymoon plans?”

More to come.
