All Blacks superstar Beauden Barrett has decided to let his Instagram followers across the world decide what position he should play for the remainder of this year’s international season.
Barrett, who can play fullback and first five, has often had his position be a hot topic of debate nearly every test match he plays.
“Always quite interesting to hear the fans’ perspective. End of the day I’m just happy to be out there in a black jersey. I’ve never actually chosen what position I play anyway, it has always been the coach’s choice” said Barrett in a calm and relaxed manner while watching his social media DMs fire up about his position on the park.
“It’s all in good fun, right? I’m seeing a lot of love for me to go back to 10. Those were some good times, weren’t they?” he said smiling, reflecting on how he was crowned two time World Rugby player of the year in that position.
Barrett continued to follow the poll results and Insta DMs.
“But then again, I’m seeing a fair few of you want me at fullback. I guess you guys like watching me run with a bit more space, huh?”
However it wasn’t just a straightforward choice between 10 and 15. Some AB’s fans fondly recalled Barrett’s early days, when he would come off the bench to devastating effect.
“I’ve got a few messages suggesting I should be an impact player again,” Barrett noted with a grin. “Those were wild times, coming on in the last 20 and just going for it.
Barrett then wrapped up his interview with our reporters and also to those on social media.
“Looks like it’s a tight race between 10 and fullback, with a surprising amount of support for me to come off the bench. Guess I’ll leave the final call to the coaches, but thanks for the input, team!” Barrett concluded in his final story of the day, flashing his signature smile.
