REPUTATION ROMANCE
Millie Golding, a 24-year-old former student of Rangiruru Girls High School, was thrilled to discover that Tinder had finally caught on to what really mattered in Christchurch – which school you went to.
As she swiped through potential matches, she noticed that the app now autofilled the chat box with the all-important question: “What school did you go to?”
She laughed to herself, thinking, “Finally, a dating app that understands me.”
As Millie asked the question to 25 year-old Jake from Christchurch about what school he attended in Canterbury, she proudly incorporated into her message, “Rangiruru Girls High School, class of ’18!” and waited eagerly for her match’s response.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Tinder, who preferred to remain unnamed, shed light on the rationale behind the new feature.
“In a city like Christchurch, where your school can say a lot about who you are and your value in society, it only made sense for us to introduce an autofill chat that caters to the preferences of our users,” they explained.
“We understand that reputation-conscious daters such as the people of Christchurch can waste no time in determining if their matches are suited to them. So may as well pre-populate the most obvious question on their lips”
As Jake replied “Christ’s College, class of 17” to Millie’s message, she was reportedly left swooning over the fact they both shared an elite private school background.
More to come.
