BLEEDS BLUE
Brad Fairbrother pulled on his New South Wales Origin jersey like he was a Sydneysider living on Bondi Beach this evening.
But in reality, Brad is just a 29-year-old builder from Christchurch who for some reason displays an unwavering love for NSW every time the State of Origin series rolls around.
Fairbrother, who has absolutely no connection to the state of New South Wales, nor Australia, had only visited Sydney once in 2015 for a friend’s wedding.
Our reporters caught up with the self proclaimed diehard Blues fan.
“Let’s go, the mighty Blues!” Fairbrother shouted with clear passion in his voice, cracking open a can of VB, a beer he only drinks around this time each year.
After updating his profile picture on Facebook to a photo of a NSW Blues jersey, it still wasn’t clear where Mr Fairbrother’s enthusiasm for the Blues was coming from. The man who was without a doubt from New Zealand and not Australia just kept rattling off snippets of pre-game banter.
“Gee who needs Reece Walsh when we’ve got James Tedesco at fullback?! Best fullback in the world!”
As Fairbrother watched the pre-game coverage of highlights of NSW’s handful of wins over Queensland through the past decade, he continued to shout at the TV as if he’d been supporting the Blues all his life.
“Oh Addo-Carr!!!!! Fastest man on the planet!”
Our reporters then left Brad to continue watching the build up, fully knowing that kick off in New Zealand would be well after 10 o’clock at night.
More to come
