VANISHING ACT

Daryl Macaskill, a die-hard Hurricanes fan from Porirua, has been mysteriously absent from his mates Facebook group chat since the weekend.

The 34 year old had been posting overly confident messages throughout the Super Rugby season to his friends’ group chat about the team’s constant success.

“You watch, lads! This is our year. Canes are unstoppable!” he typed one Friday night after a particularly convincing win.”

Other obnoxiously confident messages since the start of the competition read:

“Nobody’s going to beat us at the Caketin! Canes all the way!”

“The Chiefs? Please! They don’t stand a chance at our house this weekend!”

His messages were often left on ‘seen’ by his Crusaders friends and others even left the chat completely after getting fed up with the constant barrage of gloating.

Macaskill’s world was quickly turned upside down during the Hurricanes semi final at the Caketin on Saturday. The Chiefs raced out to a 17-0 lead after 15 minutes and had other tries denied on their way to a convincing 30-19 upset win, booking a place in this weekend’s grand final.

Macaskill has not commented since prior to last week’s semi-final.

More to come.
